WHERE WE PRAY FOR THESE TEACHERS, LORD, AND WE THANK YOU FOR THEM.

BECAUSE WITHOUT THE TEACHERS WE WOULDN'T HAVE A SCHOOL LIKE WE DO, SCHOOL DISTRICTS SO WONDERFUL AS LUBBOCK INDEPENDENT, AND SO WE PRAY FOR EACH OF THESE TEACHERS.

LORD, WE LIFT UP THE STUDENTS TO YOU.

PRAY THAT THEY WOULD BE DISCIPLINED IN THEIR STUDIES, LORD, THAT THEY WOULD GET ALONG WITH THEIR FELLOW STUDENTS, THAT THEY WOULD BE OBEDIENT TO THEIR TEACHERS, LORD, AND ULTIMATELY SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR ENDEAVORS.

THIS WAS RELEASED IN LATE SEPTEMBER.

MORE THAN TWO THIRDS OF THE APPROXIMATELY 50,000 HIGH SCORES ON THE PSAT NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST WERE DESIGNATED AS COMMENDED SCHOLARS.

THESE STUDENTS ARE RECOGNIZED ON THE BASIS OF A NATIONALLY APPLIED SELECTION INDEX SCORE THAT MAY VARY FROM YEAR TO YEAR, AND IS JUST BELOW THE LEVEL REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPANTS TO BE NAMED SEMIFINALISTS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STATES, ALTHOUGH THEY DO NOT CONTINUE IN THE COMPETITION FOR NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS, SOME OF THESE STUDENTS DO BECOME CANDIDATES FOR SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIPS SPONSORED BY CORPORATIONS AND BUSINESSES.

DURING THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR, 3351 LUBBOCK ISD STUDENTS RECEIVED INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT THROUGH OVER 154,000 HOURS OF SERVICE.

OF THESE STUDENTS, 96 IMPROVED IN ACADEMICS, 99% IMPROVED IN BEHAVIOR, AND 80% IMPROVED IN ATTENDANCE.

THE ALL IN FOR STUDENTS AWARD, CREATED IN 2007, HONORS THE EXEMPLARY DEDICATION OF CIS STAFF, EDUCATORS, COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND CIS ALUM WHO GO ALL IN FOR STUDENTS, EMPOWERING THEM TO STAY IN SCHOOL, GRADUATE, AND GO ON FOR BRIGHTER FUTURES.

THERE ARE 25 SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ARE MEMBERS OF THE SYSTEM OF GREAT SCHOOLS THAT SERVE OVER 800,000 STUDENTS IN TOTAL, AND SO WE KIND OF ADHERE TO AN IDEA OR THINKING OR A PHILOSOPHY OF LOOKING AT MAKING SURE WE UNDERSTAND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE.

WE TAKE BOLD ACTION TO CREATE WHAT'S NEEDED BASED ON DATA AND FACTS THAT WE ARE ABLE TO FIND.

WE TRY TO EMPOWER OUR FAMILIES TO MAKE CHOICES THAT ARE BEST OPTIONS FOR THEIR CHILDREN, AND THEN WE WANT TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE AND EFFECTIVE CENTRAL OFFICE STRUCTURES SO THAT WE DO ALL THESE THINGS. IT'S AGAIN LOOKING AT OUR QUALITY SEATS ANALYSIS THAT'S BEING PRESENTED TO YOU TODAY, REVIEWING AND LOOKING AT OUR NORTH STAR GOAL, LOOKING AT THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT WE'VE TAKEN PLACE THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE IN OUR DISTRICT SO FAR, WHETHER IT'S BEEN OUR SCHOOL ACTION FUND, LOOKING AT TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT, LOOKING AT ENROLLMENT PRIORITIES, AND ALSO THROUGH LOOKING AT HOW THE OFFICE OF INNOVATION HAS WORKED ALONGSIDE OTHER PARTNERS IN OUR DISTRICT TO HELP AT CAMPUS, CHEERING FOR SUPPORT.

LOOKING AT OUR VISION, MISSION AND VISION, VALUE STATEMENTS, OUR NORTH STAR GOAL, OUR LEADERSHIP DEFINITION AND MEASURING IF WE ARE ON TRACK TOWARDS THESE GOALS, AND THEN AGAIN, LOOKING AT HOW WE PLAN TO GET THERE THROUGH THE DIFFERENT ACTIONS THAT TAKE PLACE IN OUR DISTRICT.

SO WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR FINDINGS, OUR KEY TAKEAWAYS THAT WE'LL BE PRESENTING TODAY IS THAT OUR ENROLLMENT DECLINES ARE NOW HITTING ALL OF OUR GRADE LEVELS AND ARE BECOMING UNSUSTAINABLE. ENROLLMENT DECLINES ARE MAINLY DUE TO FACTORS OUTSIDE OF THE DISTRICT'S CONTROL, BUT CHOICE PATTERNS EXACERBATE THE DECLINING SCHOOL AGE, POPULATION IMPACT ON PARTICULAR SCHOOL AND FEEDER PATTERNS.

WE ALSO SEE A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENROLLMENT, SCHOOL QUALITY, AND STUDENT EXPERIENCE AT SECONDARY SCHOOLS.

SO AS A DISTRICT, WE'VE TAKEN BOLD ACTION.

WE HAVE LOOKED AT SOME INNOVATIVE SCHOOL MODELS ALREADY, AND BUT WE CONTINUE TO LOOK FOR OTHER GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THAT WILL LEAD TO SOME, HOPEFULLY SOME SIZABLE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS, AND DESPITE SOME ACTIONS THAT WE HAVE TAKEN, WE STILL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL IN GENERAL, AND WE'LL SHOW THAT INFORMATION HERE SHORTLY, AND THEN ALSO WE LOOK AT OUR SMALL SCHOOLS AND HOW THEY ARE STRETCHING RESOURCES VERY THIN IN OUR DISTRICT, AND IT'S BECOMING HARDER TO OFFER OFFER THE QUALITY EXPERIENCE THAT SOME OF OUR LARGER SCHOOLS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO.

SO OVERALL, IN GENERAL, WE BEGAN OUR PROCESS AS A SYSTEM OF GREAT SCHOOLS.

WE STARTED OFF IN 2018 AND 19 WHERE 42% OF OUR STUDENTS WERE SEATING AT A OR B CAMPUSES.

THAT NUMBER ACTUALLY INCREASED IN 2021 AND 2022, WHERE 75% OF OUR STUDENTS AT THAT TIME WERE SEATING AT A OR B CAMPUS.

HOWEVER, THINGS CHANGE.

THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM HAS CHANGED.

WE HAVE NOW STAAR 2.0, AND THROUGH THAT NEW SYSTEM, OUR PROJECTION FOR THIS UPCOMING YEAR IS AT 64% OF OUR STUDENTS WILL BE SITTING ON A OR B CAMPUSES, AND

THAT AGAIN, OUR OVERALL OUR OVERALL HIGH REACHING GOAL THERE IS 80%.

SO AGAIN THESE ARE A LIST OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT ACTIONS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE, AND THE ONE CURRENTLY THAT OUR DISTRICT IS WORKING THROUGH AT THIS TIME IS CAVAZOS MIDDLE SCHOOL, WORKING THROUGH THE LASSO BLENDED LEARNING GRANT, AND THIS IS A MAP TO KIND OF SHOW YOU THE REPRESENTATION ALL THE STARS REPRESENT SOME OF THE DIFFERENT ACTIONS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY ARE NOTED THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT EAST, WEST AND NORTH AS WELL.

IF YOU LOOK AT WESTER ELEMENTARY, FOR EXAMPLE, BEFORE WE WERE INVOLVED WITH SCHOOL ACTION AND SAF FUNDS AND OPPORTUNITIES, AND THERE YOU CAN SEE THAT AT THAT TIME, WESTER WAS CONSIDERED AN F RATED CAMPUS.

IN 2023-2024, THEY'RE PROJECTED TO BE A B CAMPUS BASED ON ALL THE WORK THAT MISS HURST AND HER TEAM HAVE BEEN DOING THE LAST FEW YEARS WITH THEIR SCHOOL REDESIGN, MCCALL ACADEMY IS A BRAND NEW CAMPUS THAT WAS CREATED ONCE SMILEY WILSON WAS CLOSED AND ENROLLMENT BOUNDARIES SHIFTED, AND WE CREATED A MAGNET SCHOOL AND THAT IS PROJECTED TO BE A B.

CARMONA HARRISON COMBINING THREE SMALLER CAMPUSES, A C, BROWN ELEMENTARY, A C, AND THEN CAVAZOS EVEN THOUGH THAT'S A BRAND NEW ACTION AND ONGOING ACTION, WE HAVE GREAT LEADERSHIP THERE, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THEIR PROJECTED RATING IS TO BE A B THIS UPCOMING YEAR.

SO AGAIN, THIS IS JUST A HIGHLIGHT OF WHAT'S CURRENTLY GOING ON AT CAVAZOS MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND SOME OF THE DECLINES.

THEY HAVE HAD A DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT SINCE 2019, BUT AND YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT THEY'VE LOST BY READING THE BULLET POINTS HERE, BUT YOU ALSO CAN SEE THAT AGAIN, THROUGH STRONG LEADERSHIP, SOME ADDITIONAL MONIES THROUGH THE SCHOOL ACTION FUND AND THE BLENDED LEARNING GRANT.

WE'RE WORKING WITH EDUCATION ELEMENTS TO KIND OF SEE WHAT WE CAN DO THERE.

THE PROJECTION FOR CAVAZOS THIS THIS UPCOMING YEAR IS A B, AND SO THAT'S A 23 POINT INCREASE FROM 2022, AND THEN AGAIN, ADDITION TO SOME OF THESE SCHOOLS.

OTHERS HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY SCHOOL ACTION FUNDS AND LOOKING AT CERTAIN COMMUNITIES.

SO WHEN WE LOOK AT IRONS MIDDLE SCHOOL, FOR EXAMPLE, IRONS RECEIVED QUITE A FEW STUDENTS AND AS ENROLLMENT BOUNDARIES CHANGED BECAUSE OF THE CLOSING OF SMILEY WILSON, WHEN WE LOOK AT JACKSON, GUADALUPE, AND WRIGHT, THOSE STUDENTS HAVE TRANSITIONED INTO A BRAND NEW BUILDING AT CARMONA HARRISON.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE DUPRE COMMUNITY, WE DID CLOSE DUPRE ELEMENTARY, BUT A LOT OF THOSE STUDENTS TRANSITIONED OVER TO BROWN ELEMENTARY, AND THEN THAT BUILDING IS STILL CURRENTLY BEING USED.

IT'S BEING USED TO HOUSE PROGRAMS THAT WERE ONCE HOUSED AT MATTHEWS ARE NOW ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF DUPRE, AND THEN THAT BOTTOM FLOOR IS ACTUALLY HOUSING A IN-DISTRICT DAYCARE AT THAT SCHOOL.

SO WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO UTILIZE AND TAKE ACTION BASED ON SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST, BUT WE'VE HAD SOME SUCCESSES.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE THAT WAS TALKED ABOUT AND SHARED WITH YOU LAST MONTH AT THE BOARD MEETING WAS HOW WE'RE SCHOOL TIERING AND DIFFERENTIATING SUPPORTS FOR A LOT OF OUR SCHOOLS THAT ARE WORKING THROUGH DIFFERENT ACTIONS OR EVEN WORKING THROUGH LOOKING AT THEIR OWN ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEMS, AND SO WE HAVE WORKED AGAIN, ONE OF THE THINGS ABOUT WORKING THROUGH THE OFFICE OF INNOVATION, WE DO NOT WORK IN A SILO.

WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR TIER THREE CAMPUSES FOR 2024-2025, THESE ARE THE CAMPUSES BASED ON THE RUBRIC AND THE TIERING THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON THIS UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE'RE NOT FOCUSING ON OUR TIER ONE AND TIER TWO CAMPUSES, BUT THESE ARE GETTING MORE DESIGNATED SUPPORT AS WE ARE GOING THROUGH THIS YEAR, AND SO THE LIST OF CAMPUSES ARE THERE.

THOSE THAT HAVE AN ASTERISK HAVE ALSO GONE THROUGH SCHOOL ACTION IN THE PAST.

SO THEY'VE RECEIVED SOME ADDITIONAL FUNDINGS IN THE PAST, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBER OF CAMPUSES THAT ARE LISTED THERE FOR YOU TO READ.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU IS THAT EVEN THOUGH WE DO HAVE A DECLINING ENROLLMENT AT LUBBOCK ISD, WE STILL SERVE ABOUT HALF OF THE STUDENTS IN OUR COUNTY, AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TO REMEMBER, IS THAT WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT WHAT ARE WE DOING OVERALL FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR STUDENTS, WE DO SERVE QUITE A FEW.

WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS REPRESENTATION NOT ONLY OF LUBBOCK ISD ENROLLMENT TO COMPARE IT TO THE COUNTY AND AGAIN, THIS DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT STUDENTS WHO ARE ATTENDING A PRIVATE SCHOOL BECAUSE THOSE NUMBERS AREN'T AS PUBLIC.

I CAN PULL THESE NUMBERS OFF DIFFERENT PAPER REPORTS THAT TI PROVIDES, BUT YOU CAN SEE WHAT IS OUR ENROLLMENT IN RELATION TO OUR NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST. THE ONE THAT'S MOST NOTABLE, HARMONY HAS HAS INCREASED THEIR ENROLLMENT OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, BUT AGAIN, WHEN WE ALSO LOOK AT OUR NET GAINS, WE DO GAIN MORE STUDENTS FROM FRIENDSHIP AND COOPER THAN WE LOSE BECAUSE WE DO HAVE INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS THAT GO BACK AND FORTH, BUT AGAIN, WHEN WE LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS, WE DO GAIN MORE STUDENTS FROM THOSE TWO DISTRICTS.

ALSO, YOU CAN SEE THAT SCHOOLS ARE IMPACTED DIFFERENTLY BY ENROLLMENT DECLINE.

SO IN THE ELEMENTARY SIDE YOU CAN SEE THAT WHILE SCHOOLS HAVE SOME SCHOOLS HAVE SEEN AN INCREASE IN ENROLLMENT, MOST OF OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES SHOW ENROLLMENT DECLINES, AND SO YOU CAN SEE THAT THE TWO THAT HAVE DECLINED THE MOST, ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION HERE, IS HODGES AND OVERTON.

WE LOOK AT SCHOOL QUALITY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

MANY MIDDLE SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO SEE LOW STAAR PROFICIENCY RATES, WHICH I'LL SHARE SOME OF THOSE DOMAIN ONE SCORES THAT ARE THE PROJECTED SCORES HERE WITH YOU IN A MOMENT AND THEN ALSO WHEN WE LOOK AT THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE AS WE HAVE SMALLER MIDDLE SCHOOLS, THAT STUDENT EXPERIENCE CANNOT BE AS RICH AS SOME OF OUR LARGER MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

WHEN WE LOOK AT ENROLLMENT AGAIN, WE LOOK AT ENROLLMENT OVER TIME.

YOU CAN SEE THE DECLINES THAT I'VE SHARED WITH YOU ALREADY OVERALL, AND AS A DISTRICT, YOU CAN SEE THOSE DECLINES AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL SITE AS WELL, WHERE OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENT HAS DROPPED A LITTLE BIT MORE SIGNIFICANTLY THAN SOME OF OUR ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS, AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THAT ALSO BY GRADE LEVEL ENROLLMENT OVER TIME WITH SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE.

THE ONE THAT SHOWS ENROLLMENT CHANGE IN A POSITIVE WAY IS IRONS, BUT THAT'S MAINLY DUE TO WHEN SMILEY WILSON WAS CLOSED AND POPULATIONS WERE SHIFTED.

THEN WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT RESIDE IN THESE BOUNDARIES, YOU CAN ALSO SEE THAT THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS RESIDING IN THOSE BOUNDARIES IS ALSO DECLINED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS.

WHEN WE LOOK AT 2018 AND 19, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT WAS KIND OF A PEAK, BUT THOSE DECLINES WITHIN SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN LIVING IN THOSE ATTENDANCE AREAS HAS ALSO DECLINED SIGNIFICANTLY, WHERE YOU CAN ALSO SEE THAT THOSE THAT ARE LIVING IN THE SLAYTON AREA ARE THE SMALLEST POPULATION HERE IN LUBBOCK.

SO WHEN WE STARTED KAMI TOLD YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE STARTED IN JULY.

WE SPENT A WEEK THERE.

IT WAS REALLY AMAZING TO JUST START WORKING ON THOSE THINGS, AND THEN WE WENT IN SEPTEMBER WITH OUR PLUS ONE, CHELSEA HOGUE, IS MY AMAZING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, AND SHE'S MY PLUS ONE.

SO THIS IS KIND OF THE AGENDA OF WHAT WE WORKED ON WHEN WE WERE TOGETHER IN SEPTEMBER.

SO SHE HAD SOME OPPORTUNITIES THAT SHE GOT TO DO SOME WORK AND SOME LEARNING AND SOME GROWING ON HER OWN WHILE I WORKED WITH MY COHORT FROM ALL OVER THE STATE, AND THEN WE HAD

A LOT OF TIME TO REALLY LEARN ABOUT SOME DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO DATA ANALYSIS AND HOW TO DIG IN AND HOW TO LOOK AT THOSE THINGS, AND AS KAMI MENTIONED, LOOKING AT ANY OF MY STUDENTS GROUPS IN THE AREA OF MATHEMATICS THAT WERE UNDERPERFORMING, AND REALLY THAT FOCUS, WE WORKED ALL ONE EVENING.

WE COULDN'T STOP DURING DINNER OR THAT EVENING BECAUSE IT REALLY OPENED A LOT OF DOORS TO THINGS THAT WE HAD NEVER CONSIDERED BEFORE ON HOW TO TOUCH EVERY ONE OF OUR STUDENTS AT SMITH.

SO THIS IS WHAT WE ULTIMATELY CAME TO AS OUR PROBLEM OF PRACTICE, THAT WE'RE GOING TO BEGIN WORKING ON SOME ACTION TRIALS WITH TO IMPROVE THOSE OUTCOMES FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND WE CAME UP WITH THREE.

WHEN WE CAME BACK TO LUBBOCK, WE PULLED OUR MATH TEACHERS.

DR. MCCALL JOINED US, AND WE WERE ABLE TO PRESENT THE DATA WE HAD USED, WHAT WE HAD LOOKED AT, AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM OF PRACTICE THAT I ASKED FOR MY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, MY MATH TEACHERS, DR.

MCCALL TO GIVE US THEIR FEEDBACK, AND THIS IS WHAT WE ARRIVED AT, AND IT WAS VERY EYE OPENING TO US BECAUSE WE DID NOT REALIZE WE WERE VERY FOCUSED ON OUR STUDENTS STAYING AT THOSE MEETS AND MASTERS LEVELS, AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT, SINCE I GOT TO SMITH FOUR YEARS AGO, WE'VE BEEN HIGHLY FOCUSED ON, IS MAKING SURE THAT WE CONTINUE TO GROW KIDS AND KEEP A REALLY HIGH EXPECTATION, BUT AS WE DUG INTO THE DATA, WE REALIZED THAT WE HAD STUDENTS WHO WERE NOT MEETING THEIR GROWTH.

WHEN WE LOOKED AT WHO'S MEETING THEIR GROWTH AND WHO'S NOT, BECAUSE GROWTH IS EXTREMELY VALUABLE FOR EVERY KID, BECAUSE EVERY KID COMES IN AT A DIFFERENT PLACE, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT GOALS AND SKILLS, BUT WE REALIZED WE HAVE GOT TO GET THOSE KIDS TO THAT MEETS LEVEL OR THEY'RE NOT GOING TO MEET THEIR GROWTH.

SO WE'VE TRACKED THAT WE KNOW WHO THOSE KIDS ARE.

WE HAVE PICTURES AND WE'RE INTERVIEWING OUR STUDENTS.

WE'RE TALKING TO THEIR TEACHERS, WE'RE OBSERVING THEIR ENGAGEMENT.

WE'RE READING RESEARCH TO REALLY HELP US START TRACKING THEM.

SO THIS IS MY PROBLEM OF PRACTICE FOR SMITH, AND I JUST WANT TO SHARE A FEW MORE TAKEAWAYS THAT I'VE HAD, REALLY IN CONNECTION TO THAT PRINCIPAL PROFILE AND HOW THAT'S HELPING ME AND MY LEADERSHIP TEAM AT MY CAMPUS.

THE HUGE IMPACT IN HELPING ME IN JULY, WHEN SCHOOL WASN'T IN SESSION YET, WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE A BUILDING FULL OF TEACHERS YET TO REALLY THINK ABOUT WHO I WAS AS A LEADER, WHAT MY MISSION WAS, WHAT WHAT MY PURPOSE WAS, AND THEN KNOWING WHAT ARE GOING TO BE MY GOALS THAT I WORK ON THIS YEAR.

THAT WAS INCREDIBLE TIME.

IT WAS REALLY DEEP, BUT I CAN TELL YOU IT'S CHANGED ME ALREADY AS A LEADER, BUT ALSO AS A MOM AND A SPOUSE AND A FRIEND, JUST TO REALLY KNOW WHO I AM, WHAT MY VALUES ARE AND WHAT I'M ROOTED IN.

SO THAT'S A HUGE PART OF THAT.

DEVELOPING LEADERS IN THAT PROFILE.

ALSO, AS I MENTIONED, HELPING US REALLY LOOK AT OUR DATA IN A DIFFERENT WAY WITH SOME NEW IDEAS AND REALLY LOOKING AT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR KIDS HAS HELPED ME JUST TO HAVE A DIFFERENT LENS WHEN I'M VALUING ALL THOSE PIECES OF DATA, AND THEN FINALLY, KAMI SPOKE TO YOU ABOUT OUR EXECUTIVE COACH. MY EXECUTIVE COACH WAS HERE FROM AUSTIN YESTERDAY.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS BEEN MOST POWERFUL TO ME IS WHEN WE WENT AND JC TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT, IS THEY DID A LOT OF WORK ON HELPING US FIND OUR PURPOSE AND, YOU KNOW, WE ALWAYS WE GO INTO LEADERSHIP BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, BUT THROUGH THE PROCESS, WE WERE ABLE TO REALLY LOOK AT WHAT ARE THE GIFTINGS THAT ARE UNIQUE TO US, AND SO FOR ME, MY PURPOSE STATEMENT IS I PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER TO BRING DREAMS TO LIFE, AND SO IT HELPS ME STAND FIRM, AND, YOU KNOW, AS PRINCIPALS WE ARE ASKED TO DO SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, AND WE ARE, YOU KNOW, JUST STRETCHED AND PULLED IN MANY WAYS, AND IT'S REALLY EASY TO LOSE YOUR FOOTING AS A LEADER, AND SO THROUGH THE PROCESS, I'VE REALLY BEEN ABLE TO STAND STRONG IN WHAT MY PURPOSE IS, BUT IT'S ALSO BEEN ABLE TO HELP ME ENGAGE IN EACH OTHER'S STRENGTHS, AND IT WAS THIS ACTIVITY WAS INTENDED TO JUST BE FOR US AS LEADERS, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS SO POWERFUL.

I TOOK IT BACK TO MY ENTIRE STAFF.

SO OUR ENTIRE STAFF DID THEIR PURPOSE STATEMENTS, AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE'RE WORKING ON IS JUST DISTRIBUTING LEADERSHIP, AND WE WANT PEOPLE STEPPING UP IN THEIR GIFTINGS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, AS THE LEADER, I DON'T HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS, AND THERE'S A LOT OF STRENGTH IN MY BUILDING, AND SO EVERYONE FOUND THEIR PURPOSE, BUT THEN THEY GOT TO TELL ME HOW THEY'RE GOING TO STEP UP AND USE IT.

WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO FOR THE TEAM? AND SO IT HAS BEEN SUCH A NEAT PROCESS BECAUSE LIKE, PEOPLE ARE JUST SHINING IN WAYS THAT WE DIDN'T EVEN DREAM, AND IT MY PERSONAL GOAL IS TO DISTRIBUTE LEADERSHIP, NOT TRYING TO HOLD ON TO EVERYTHING AND REALLY LET THEM STEP UP, AND SO IT'S BEEN SO NEAT, AND WE'VE GOT A LOT OF NEW INITIATIVES ON MY CAMPUS THAT WERE NOT MY DOING.

IT'S THE TEACHERS, AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN THEY HAVE OWNERSHIP OF IT AND YOU KNOW, WITH EDUCATION, IT ALWAYS YOU HEAR THE MEDIA AND WHAT'S OUT IN THE WORLD, AND IT FEELS SO HOPELESS, BUT LIKE WHEN TEACHERS ARE GETTING TO DO THINGS THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND THEY ARE GETTING TO HAVE A SAY IN THINGS LIKE IT BRINGS HOPE AND EXCITEMENT, AND SO IT'S JUST BEEN AN AMAZING PROCESS.

WE'VE DEVELOPED A LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE WHERE LIKE JUST WE'RE COACHING THEM.

SO THE EXECUTIVE COACH, WHAT SHE'S DOING WITH ME, I'M TURNING AROUND AND DOING IT WITH MY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND OUR COACHES, AND THEY'RE DOING IT WITH THE TEACHERS, AND SO IT'S JUST BEEN ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT IT JUST PUSHES DOWN AND TRICKLES DOWN TO EVERYONE, AND IN MY LAST COACHING SESSION ONE OF THE THINGS MY COACH SAID, JUST A QUOTE THAT I HAVE HUNG ON TO, IS JUST IF I'M HOLDING ON TO THINGS THAT OTHERS CAN DO, WHO IS DOING THE WORK THAT ONLY THE PRINCIPAL CAN DO AND SO IT REALLY HELPS ME HAVE GOOD CLARITY ABOUT VISION AND LOOKING AHEAD AND NOT GETTING CAUGHT UP IN THE SMALL THINGS, BUT JUST MAKING SURE THAT I'M BEING A GOOD LEADER AND JUST MOVING US FORWARD AND SO I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

AND SO WE HAVE STARTED OUR, OUR PROBLEM OF PRACTICE AS WELL AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE NOTICED IS THAT SOMETIMES AT HUTCH OR REALLY WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR DATA AND HUTCH IS THAT OUR ADVANCED STUDENTS CAN MASK SOME OF HOW OUR ON LEVEL STUDENTS ARE PERFORMING, AND SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE BRINGING THAT OUT, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING EQUITABLE SERVICE TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. AS YOU CAN KIND OF AS AS YOU CAN SEE, WE WANTED TO GO KIND OF BIGGER PICTURE, BUT THEY KEPT HOLDING US IN SAYING, HEY, YOU'VE GOT TO GO SMALLER, YOU'VE GOT TO GO SMALLER. SO WE REDUCED IT DOWN TO JUST OUR SIXTH GRADE MATH STUDENTS AGAIN, BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE THEM FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS, AND THEN REALLY LOOKING AT OUR FEMALE STUDENTS IN PARTICULAR, TO GET TO A LOWER NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WILL BE REVIEWING, BUT THAT IS, YOU KNOW, SOME DISPARITY BETWEEN OUR MEETS STUDENTS AND OUR ON LEVEL CLASSES VERSUS OUR MEETS STUDENTS IN OUR ADVANCED LEVEL CLASSES THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE REACHING EVERYBODY AND THEN JUST KIND OF GOING ON ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THROUGH THE PROCESS IS JUST THE IMPORTANCE OF TELLING YOUR STORY.

AS I MENTIONED, YOU KNOW, BEING A NEW PRINCIPAL, IT'S I WILL TELL MY STORY TO MY STAFF AND TO AND TO FAMILY MEMBERS, BUT THEN OFTEN I'LL KIND OF LEAVE IT ALONE AND WON'T GO BACK TO IT, AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS YEAR AS WELL, IS MAKING SURE THAT I'M CONTINUALLY TALKING ABOUT MY WHY, WHY WE ARE DOING THIS, AND IT'S TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE LEARNING.

SO I'M JUST CONTINUALLY GOING BACK TO THAT BECAUSE WHAT I DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO DO IS GO, MAN, HE'S DOING SOMETHING FOR WHATEVER REASON, AND WHERE THEY'RE FILLING IN THE STORY FOR ME, AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING THAT WE'RE DOING IS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
