A NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER HAS ACHIEVED THE HIGHEST PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIAL IN THE FIELD OF TEACHING.

THE CERTIFICATION IS A MEANS TO PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND IMPROVEMENT AND IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING.

BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS PROVE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN THE CLASSROOM EVERY DAY.

A DECADE OF RESEARCH SHOWS THAT STUDENTS OF BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS LEARN MORE THAN THEIR PEERS WITHOUT BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS.

STUDIES HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF HAVING A BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER IS EVEN GREATER FOR MINORITY AND LOW INCOME STUDENTS.

BOARD CERTIFICATION ALLOWS TEACHERS TO HONE THEIR PRACTICE, SHOWCASE THEIR TALENT IN THE CLASSROOM, AND DEMONSTRATE THEIR DEDICATION TO THEIR STUDENTS AND THEIR PROFESSION.

ON JANUARY 27TH, 2024, OUR FIRST COHORT OF NBCT CANDIDATES WERE RECOGNIZED FOR BEING NEWLY CERTIFIED AT THE ANNUAL PINNING CELEBRATION AT THE TEXAS NATIONAL BOARD COALITION OF TEACHING ANNUAL CONFERENCE.

LUBBOCK ISD WAS ALSO RECOGNIZED AS A NATIONAL BOARD CHAMPION.

I'M HONORED TODAY TO PRESENT OUR SIX NEWLY CERTIFIED TEACHERS TO YOU.

THEY JOIN JENNY ROSETTA, KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AT CENTENNIAL.

SHE JOINED US AS A NATIONAL BOARD ALREADY CERTIFIED TEACHER AS THE FIRST NATIONAL BOARD TEACHERS IN LUBBOCK ISD.

WE HAVE TWO ADDITIONAL COHORTS WITH 24 ADDITIONAL TEACHERS THAT ARE WORKING TOWARDS THEIR CERTIFICATION AND THE APPLICATION FOR COHORT 4 WILL OPEN ON MARCH 1ST.

THE GREENHAND QUIZ TEAM CONSISTED OF MAKED DOUGLAS MINGO AND MAKEDA MOVED INTO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY, SO SHE'S NO LONGER WITH US.

BUT SHE WAS ALSO THE NINTH PLACED INDIVIDUAL OF THE CONTEST AND SO SHE DESERVES THAT RECOGNITION. YES, PLEASE.

WE DEPEND ON LUBBOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HELP US, BUT RIGHT NOW WE HAVE TO GET IN LINE AND IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME SOMETIMES TO GET SOME OF THESE THINGS INVESTIGATED.

THIS WOULD GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THINGS MORE SWIFTLY WHEN IT CONCERNS OUR STUDENTS.

THE GRANT WOULD COVER THE COST OF HIRING A TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER.

ONE OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE LEADERSHIP PIPELINE IS THAT WE HAVE HAD DISTRICT SUPPORT AND DISTRICT COACHING AND WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AND SOUNDS LIKE WE'RE ABOUT TO BEGIN THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP COHORT.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR CAMPUS LEADERS ALONG WITH THEIR ONE DESIGNATED PERSON, TYPICALLY AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, AND THEN A LEADERSHIP TEAM TO BEGIN DIGGING IN AND LEARNING AS PART OF THIS PROCESS AS WELL.

THE WAY THAT THIS WORKS, WE WILL HAVE THREE COHORTS OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS,

THE GOAL OF THAT IS THAT YOU HAVE A LARGE ENOUGH PERCENTAGE OF YOUR CAMPUSES THAT PARTICIPATE, THAT YOU HAVE THAT TIPPING POINT THAT WE SEE AFTER 43% OF OUR CAMPUSES ARE A PART OF THIS PROCESS AND A PART OF THIS LEARNING, THEN IT STARTS TO TAKE HOLD AS PART OF CULTURE AND MOVE FORWARD.

YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER DISTRICTS THAT ARE A PART OF OUR PROCESS AS WELL AND WHAT THEIR NUMBERS LOOK LIKE IN THEIR PARTICIPATION.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PART OF THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM? IT MEANS FIRST, THAT THEY HAVE EXPOSURE TO EXPERT FACULTY.

THEY ALSO HAVE TO COMMIT THAT THEY WILL REMAIN IN THAT SEAT FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS.

BECAUSE YOU WANT CONSISTENCY TO BE PART OF THAT PROGRAM.

THAT PRINCIPAL HAS TO BE WELL RESPECTED AND HAVE A DESIRE TO GROW AND THEY HAVE TO COMMIT TO ATTEND ALL OF THE TRAINING.

IT'S 27 DAYS OF TRAINING OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR SO THEY HAVE TO MAKE A COMMITMENT.

BECAUSE OF THAT COMMITMENT, THEY HAVE TO BE A CAMPUS THAT CAN MAKE BIG GAINS.

THEY HAVE TO HAVE FACULTY AND STAFF THAT ARE ON BOARD, AND THIS BULLET IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT.

THEY CANNOT BE UNDERGOING ANY OTHER MAJOR INITIATIVE OR IN CRISIS OR BE IN A TURNAROUND CAMPUS.

THIS ISN'T TARGETED IN COHORT ONE TO LOOK AT CAMPUSES THAT ARE STRUGGLING BECAUSE THEY'RE GETTING DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUPPORTS THAT ARE ALREADY BUILT INTO THE DISTRICT.

THAT WE BUILD THAT FOUNDATION OF THE HOUSE TO BE VERY STRONG AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

IF YOU LOOK AT THIS HOUSE, THIS IS THE WORK WE'RE GOING TO DO OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

WE'VE SPENT THE LAST FEW MONTHS BUILDING DISTRICT CONTEXT AND CULTURE, UNDERSTANDING WHO WE ARE BASED UPON DATA AND WHAT WE WANT IN OUR VISION.

AND THE LEFT GRAY BOX, RIGHT ABOVE THAT LARGE BLUE BOX THAT SAYS LEADERSHIP DEFINITION, THAT'S AS FAR AS WE'VE GOTTEN AND WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON.

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING IS THAT WE'RE TAKING IT ONE STEP AT A TIME TO PROGRESS SO THAT WE CAN GET TO THE SPACE TO IDENTIFY, DEVELOP, PLACE, AND SUPPORT.

IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE'RE NOT STILL WORKING THE WORK EVERY DAY, BUT WE'RE TRYING TO BUILD STRONG SYSTEMS THAT WE CAN USE FOR

I'LL GIVE YOU A COUPLE SECONDS TO READ THAT.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, HERE WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT RATIO OF READY LEADERS, STUDENT REPRESENTATION AND STAFFING AND THEN RETENTION AND STABILITY.

RATIO OF READY LEADERS MEANS HOW MANY PEOPLE SHOULD WE HAVE ON THE BENCH READY TO TAKE A ROLE THAT BECOMES VACANT.

TWO TO ONE IS THE RECOMMENDATION FROM HOLDSWORTH SO THAT YOU HAVE TWO READY TRAINED LEADERS READY TO STEP IN AT ANY TIME.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU'RE ONLY SPECIFIC OR TARGETED TO THAT ONE LOCATION, BUT IT MEANS THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING THROUGH COACHING CYCLES THAT ARE GROWING AND LEARNING AND BEING SUPPORTED TO BE READY TO STEP IN.

WE ALSO, AFTER STUDYING DATA LOOKED AT OUR INCREASING OUR REPRESENTATION OF HISPANIC ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS TO BETTER ALIGN TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATION.

WE WANT THE NEXT BEST LEADER THAT IS QUALIFIED AND READY.

BUT WE KNOW THAT WHEN LOOKING AT OUR STUDENT POPULATION, WE HAVE A GOAL TO TRY TO HAVE OUR LEADERS TO SHOW REPRESENTATION OF OUR STUDENT BODY.

THEN, PRIORITY NUMBER 3 IS THE NORTH STAR GOAL THAT YOU'VE ALREADY SET UP AS A DISTRICT AND A BOARD TO INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS THAT ARE BEING SERVED IN AN A AND B CAMPUS.

RIGHT NOW, WE'RE WORKING ON THAT LEFT HAND SIDE OF WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE TO BUILD THOSE TALENT SYSTEMS. THAT'S WORKING ON THAT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AND THEN WE'LL START WORKING ON ALL THOSE OTHER BOXES.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS, BUT THE GOAL IS TO CREATE SYSTEMIC WAYS TO GROW AND DEVELOP LEADERS SO THAT WE DO HAVE THAT 2:1 READY BENCH AS WE MOVE FORWARD, AND WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE READY LEADERS TO STEP IN AT ANY TIME.

AS WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE LEADERSHIP DEFINITION, WE'VE BEEN REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROCESS.

WE HAVE A LEADERSHIP DEFINITION TASK FORCE THAT HAVE BEEN LED BY KEN AND AARON.

WE'RE INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THEIR WORK ON THIS.

THAT TASK FORCE IS MADE UP OF PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, AND CENTRAL OFFICE LEADERS.

THEN WE HAVE A PRINCIPAL ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE THAT IS MADE UP OF ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS, AND THEN ALL OF OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS HAVE ALSO PARTICIPATED INSIDE LEADERSHIP.

SO YOU CAN SEE OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST FEW MONTHS, WE'VE HAD SIX MEETINGS.
